Theo Stockselius Scores Twice in the Third to Beat Canada at the World Junior Showcase
Stockselius broke a third-period tie and added an empty-netter as Sweden beat Canada 5-3 Wednesday. Ethan Wyttenbach's point streak continued in a 3-2 loss to Finland, six points through three games.

Wednesday’s results — Theo Stockselius did it in the third period again. The Flames’ second-round pick scored twice down the stretch, breaking a 3-3 tie and adding an empty-netter, as Sweden beat Canada 5-3 at the World Junior Summer Showcase.
Canada led three times and couldn’t hold any of them. Jimmy Lombardi opened the scoring 2:17 into the game, but Sweden’s Milton Gastrin tied it with three seconds left in the first period. Tynan Lawrence put Canada back ahead early in the second, and Filip Ekberg answered for Sweden at 26:20. Ethan Belchetz made it 3-2 Canada with under two minutes left in regulation before Elton Hermansson tied it on a power play in the third. That’s when Stockselius took over: he stepped out of the penalty box, took a feed, and his shot deflected off a Canadian defender’s stick and past goaltender Samuel Meloche to make it 4-3, Sweden’s first lead of the game.

It’s his third goal in three games at the Showcase, after a lone tally Sunday and a scoreless outing Monday. The two teams played a 3-on-3 overtime and a full shootout afterward for evaluation purposes, separate from the final result. Stockselius was one of the shooters.

Carson Carels made his tournament debut on Canada’s blue line, drawing a holding penalty in the second but otherwise off the scoresheet. Fellow Flames prospects Cole Reschny and Chase Harrington were both healthy scratches for the opener.
In the afternoon game, Ethan Wyttenbach kept his point streak alive in a losing effort. Finland’s Vilho Vanhatalo opened the scoring on a first-period breakaway, and Wyttenbach answered late in the frame with a wrist shot through traffic to beat goaltender Patrik Kerkola and tie it 1-1.

Finland pulled ahead in the second on goals from Ilari Kapanen and Eetu Orpana, and Sammy Nelson’s shorthanded goal in the third wasn’t enough as Finland held on to win 3-2 despite getting outshot 36-18. It’s Wyttenbach’s third straight game with a point: three assists Sunday, two goals Monday, now a goal Wednesday, six points through three games.
The showcase continues Thursday, with Finland facing Canada and Sweden facing the United States.
