Eight Flames Prospects Are in Windsor for the World Junior Summer Showcase
Five of the Flames' eight prospects in Windsor took the ice Sunday as the World Junior Summer Showcase opened. Carson Carels and two more are still to come this week.

Sunday’s results — Eight Flames prospects are in Windsor, Ontario this week for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, the first evaluation step toward Canada’s 2027 world junior roster. Five of them were already on the ice Sunday, split across three national teams.
USA Blue opened with a 6-1 win over Sweden. Ethan Wyttenbach, a fifth-round pick in 2025 who put up 59 points in 40 games as a true freshman at Quinnipiac last season, picked up three assists on the top line, finding linemates Michael Berchild and Wyatt Cullen for goals as USA Blue pulled away. Defenceman Mace’o Phillips, a third-rounder out of Green Bay’s USHL club, anchored the other end and helped hold Sweden to 19 shots.

USA White had a rougher afternoon, losing 4-1 to a structured Finland team. Jack Hextall, Calgary’s first-round pick in 2026, worked a middle-six role and kept up his two-way habits but finished off the scoresheet, same as fellow first-rounder Cullen Potter. Both are headed to Michigan State this fall.
The standout game among the group belonged to the losing side of the other scoreline. Theo Stockselius, the Flames’ second-round pick in 2025 who signed his entry-level contract in May, scored Sweden’s only goal in the loss to USA Blue, cashing in a passing play early in the third. It continues a strong run for him that included a U20 playoff MVP performance with Djurgårdens this spring.

Three more Flames prospects are in Windsor but haven’t played yet. Carson Carels, Cole Reschny and Chase Harrington are all on Canada’s roster, which doesn’t open the tournament until Wednesday against Sweden. Carels and Harrington were both taken in this year’s draft class (first round and second round); Reschny went in the first round the year before.
The showcase runs through August 1, ten games in all, feeding into evaluation for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship. USA Blue and USA White are both back on the ice Monday, and Canada’s group gets its first look Wednesday against Sweden. FSW will check back in as the week plays out, especially once Carels and the rest of the Canada contingent get on the ice.
