Ethan Wyttenbach Scores Twice as USA Blue Beats Finland at the World Junior Showcase

Monday’s results — Ethan Wyttenbach is having a showcase. The Flames’ fifth-round pick scored twice as USA Blue beat Finland 5-1 at the World Junior Summer Showcase, a day after he picked up three assists in the opener. Two games in, he has five points.

USA Blue led 2-1 into the third period before pulling away with three unanswered goals, doing it while getting outshot 33-28. Wyttenbach’s linemate Carter Sanderson, who isn’t in Calgary’s system but had a hat trick of his own Sunday, chipped in a goal and an assist. Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff, who’s been covering the tournament from Windsor, called Wyttenbach the best player at the Showcase so far: “he has also shown outstanding poise as the best player in this tournament thus far.”

USA White beat Sweden 6-4 in the late game. Jack Hextall picked up a power-play assist, his first point of the tournament. Theo Stockselius was held off the scoresheet. Cullen Potter did not dress; he is at the Showcase but has not skated, still recovering from an injury sustained in January.

Calgary’s mainstream press is starting to notice the volume, too. The Calgary Herald ran a piece Monday night on the Flames’ prospect pool being on display at the Showcase.

Three more Flames prospects, Carson Carels, Cole Reschny and Chase Harrington, are still waiting on Canada’s tournament opener Wednesday against Sweden.

Correction, August 1, 2026: An earlier version of this article said Mace'o Phillips dressed for USA Blue against Finland, and that Jack Hextall, Cullen Potter and Theo Stockselius all played against Sweden and were held off the scoresheet. Official game reports show Phillips did not dress in the Finland game, Hextall recorded a power-play assist rather than no points, and Potter did not dress in that game or any other at the Showcase. Potter attended the full week without skating while recovering from an injury sustained in January.
